Lajuma Research Centre is situated in the northern part of South Africa high up in the Soutpansberg Mountain Range, a recognised centre of floristic diversity and endemism, and is located between Louis Trichardt (Makhado) and Vivo. The area is famous for its breathtaking mountain scenery, pristine wilderness character and close proximity to tourism destinations. These include the Tuli Wilderness Area in Botswana, the Mapungubwe National Park, Venda, the Land of Legend, Blouberg, Makgabeng Plateau and the Kruger National Park. Lajuma is Malaria free.
Lajuma has been declared a Natural Heritage Site and forms part of the Luvhondo Nature Reserve within the UNESCO Vhembe Biosphere Reserve. It has beautiful mountain scenery, a variety of veld types including montane forests and grasslands, clear mountain streams with waterfalls, interesting archaeological sites and a remarkable diversity of plants and animals.
